Early intervention so important…

The principle of early intervention has always been at the heart of the GOL action plan and, if ever there was an ideal time to convince the doubters, now is it. Following the outbreak of looting that hit our city centres over the summer, early intervention has become a buzz-phrase associated with arguments on how to deal with the causes of this type of behaviour. Even politicians can no longer deny the fact that problems resulting from social deprivation are best nipped in the bud and that our teenagers can be helped to help themselves out of the cycle of low esteem, low aspiration and unemployment. The GOL Big Sister programme will become even more important as the economic recession deepens so now is the time to take advantage of heightened public awareness and to press for support from public and private bodies.
