We all know the bad news regarding employment prospects for youngsters: it has never been more difficult for them to get started on a career so it is more important than ever that they should prepare as best they can. The girls on the Crewe Big Sister programme are well aware of this and, to their great credit, have expressed their determination to go on to Further Education so as to give themselves the best possible advantage.
The experience of the Big Sisters is of real, practical value here: they know only too well the importance of interview techniques and C.V. presentations and they are on hand to share their knowledge and to offer help, advice and encouragement.
But, come what may, the most important thing for the girls is to believe in themselves and to keep their aspirations firmly in their sights. Once they graduate from the mentoring programme in April it is not the end of the journey, just the end of the beginning: they will still have a long way to go but Girls Out Loud and their Big Sisters will be there, willing and able to remain in touch and remind them not to let go of their dreams.
