STEPPING UP AND OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE ALWAYS PAYS OFF!
This month we delivered our much loved Role Model Relay event at a school in Manchester. The idea is ask 4 inspirational women to share their journey and offer advice to a group of 13/14 year old girls then we invite a further 30 awesome female role models to engage in a speed mentoring session. The morning is high energy and high impact. Here is Ameilia, one of our role model speakers, the MD of Nicholas Austen Hair and Beauty Spa in Cheshire talking about her experience. She is only 26 but a force to be reckoned with and the girls, not surprisingly loved her!
‘So today I did something really awesome. A pretty amazing client of mine Jane, who has a superb company Girls Out Loud which helps support and influence young girls, asked me to do an inspirational speech at a secondary school in Wythenshawe. I stood in front of 95 13/14 year old girls and their teachers, something I was very nervous about let me tell you. but it was amazing. I’m so glad that I did it. And I feel honoured to have been asked. If today I have made even the smallest difference to even one girl’s thoughts about what life is like in the real world and the world of careers, then it makes it all totally worth it. I came away from today feeling super inspired by so many other powerful women and even more motivated to continue with my own dreams. Here’s to making a difference in the eyes of the children of our society and showing them hard work pays off. Aim high and dream big.
A massive thank you again Jane for asking me. It was fantastic.’
I went to Hobbs and bought a new linen top for work. It was a gorgeous shade of orange and I felt good in it but when I wore it for the first time, half expecting a compliment, the comment I got from one of my colleagues was “You’ve been Tangoed!” It never left my […]
December 2013 saw the successful culmination of our third Big Sister programme when our twenty brave Little Sisters from Harrop Fold School made a big, joyful splash at their graduation. In a lively ceremony, hosted by the University of Salford at their Media City studios, the girls celebrated their achievement gleefully with songs, speeches, certificates […]
There’s currently much of talk about the fact that company boards are overwhelmingly dominated by men but, whatever is being done to redress the balance, it obviously isn’t working. Research from the Cranfield School of Management shows that board level appointments of women at FTSE 100 firms has actually slumped to only 17% of the […]
This week saw the first 2 Girls Out Loud graduates start University in the UK. Both Gina and Jasmine participated in our first ever programme, our pilot, delivered in a Blackpool school with the support and guidance of the Hero Project back in 2008/9. At the time they were both 15 going on 16 and […]
Paige is a Big Sister on our programme at Blackburn Central High and has spent the past 6 months in a mentoring relationship with her Little Sister Ruckaya. Unfortunately due to a job move Paige has to step back this month so we asked her to share her journey as even though she has to […]
Now, with IWD fast approaching, is a good time to remind ourselves of the theory of synergy. What? If we consider that women – half the world’s population – are struggling for equality of opportunity with men – the other half of the population, then it is obvious that humanity is not working harmoniously to […]
