A Big Sister shares the beginning…..

Last week, I met my little sister for our 2nd 121 mentoring session. I feel like I know her so well already, I’ve only met her now 3 times and I have no idea why I was worried about us not getting on or having nothing to talk about!

Myself and all the other big sisters were waiting for the girls to come into the class room and when they all walked in, she came running to sit down. Then we chatted about her family, her dad in particular, what she had got him for Father’s Day. She also mentioned that he was buying a ring for his partner and she wasn’t 100% sure how she felt about that. She felt happy and sad, we talked through that for a little bit. We talked for what seemed like 20 mins but soon the hour was up! It went so fast this time; we didn’t stop talking and we didn’t get chance to do any activity!

One positive to share is she now is in a better sleeping pattern and I’d like to think some of that is down to me of course but it is all her. The first time we met, she told me that she couldn’t get out of bed in a morning, more so toward the end of the week, so we spoke about her sleeping habits, what does she do before bed etc. She said at that point that she went to sleep at past midnight every night, she wasn’t doing anything though, she said sometimes she just laid awake thinking and she did say she wasn’t on her phone (not sure if that was true!) I asked her for just one night to, get a nice bath, relax, do a face mask etc and try to get into bed for 10pm at the latest to try and get as much sleep as possible. We talked about the benefits and even the impact on her mood if she is tired in class too.

Well, she said this time that she is now asleep by 10pm every night, she even said that she was too tired and falling asleep by then now so wants to be asleep earlier. So proud of her!

Sleep pattern ✅ Small step, big win 🙌🏻

This time, I’ve asked her to put her hand up in that class where she says she never would, Maths class! She’s in the top group but isn’t confident in Maths for some reason, so that’s her challenge for this month.

I’ll let you all know how she gets on in a few weeks! 😊
