The Big and Little Sisters at Blackburn Central High School experienced a real treat back in September when they were invited to an event celebrating 100 years of women in Policing in Preston.

The event was attended by over 100 Policewomen and the Girls Out Loud party were treated like VIPS for the day, attending some of the presentations, including Founder’ Jane’s opening keynote.

The girls also spent time with female officers from some of the specialist units, an amazing female Sergeant of the Armed Response Unit – who talked about her role and the equipment she used – some of the girls even got to try out the protective clothing and shields.

Then it was time to meet some extra special members of the force, a police horse and its rider, a Spaniel sniffer dog and a German Shepherd. Members of the force took time to explain why and how the police use animals; they even showed a demo of one of the dogs defending an officer from a staged attack. Very impressive!

The Big and Little Sisters loved every minute of the day, and on the journey home many of the girls could be heard talking about wanting to be a police officer! Hopefully they’ll pick up a few new cadets from this bunch.
